WP7 to get Angry Birds Space

26 March 2012

A u-turn by Rovio means that Angry Birds Space will launch on Windows Phone

With over half a billion downloads across all platforms, you'd be a bit concerned if the developers of the world's biggest mobile game decided not to release it on your OS.That was where Microsoft found itself last week if the reports about Angry Birds Space not being released for Windows Phone were to believed.

Finnish developer Rovio told Bloomberg that it had no plans for a Windows Phone version of the game because the redesign would be too much of an undertaking. The news must have come as a huge blow to Microsoft as it looks to take on Android and Apple with Windows Phone 7.

Fortunately, there's been a change of heart as Rovio chief executive Mikael Hed confirmed that his team are developing a Windows Phone version of the game. It's a bit vague, with Hed saying 'we are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7' and no timeframe mentioned, but it's clearly on the agenda now.

Following the 2009 original, we've had Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentine and even Chinese New Year themed editions but the gravity-defying physics makes Angry Birds Space extra addictive.
