Sony Xperia ST21i appears online
30 April 2012
Mid-range smartphone comes with Ice Cream Sandwich
No longer just for high-end smartphones, Google's latest Ice Cream Sandwich variation of Android seems to be landing on lower-end handsets too, as the Sony Xperia ST21i demonstrates.
This particular model has just appeared online with specs that indicate it's a mid-range device.
Specifically, the rather chunky Sony Xperia ST21i is said to offer up a 3.2-inch screen with 640x480-pixel resolution, an 800MHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM and a three-megapixel camera. But the big plus here, if true, is the presence of Ice Cream Sandwich right from the off.
Yes, lower-priced phones like the HTC One V already offer it, but it's still nice to see the latest version of Android on an affordable phone. If it arrives pretty soon, it would put it ahead of many higher-priced Sony phones when it comes to the operatinh system.
No news on exactly when this phone will be launching though, not to mention how much the networks will actually charge. But if this is the finished model, expect it launch fairly soon – and under a name a little more catchy than 'ST21i'.
