Nokia 808 Pureview landing in April?
09 March 2012
Phone plus 41-magapixel camera could hit the UK early
It was undoubtedly one of the big talking points of the recent MWC show and if you bought into the hype of the Nokia 808 Pureview, you'll be pleased to know it might land a little earlier.
When the phone plus camera (or should that be camera plus phone?) got it official introduction, Nokia talked loosely of a May launch date. But the Unlocked Mobiles site is offering the phone in the UK with an earlier delivery time than that. According that retailer, you can secure a SIM-free version of the Nokia 808 Pureview from 23 April 2012, with a price, including VAT, of £464.98. There's no word off Nokia as to whether this is the official date for the phone and as such, the date that it lands with the networks. But it's not going to be far off, that's for sure.
Should you get one? We'll reserve our judgement until the phone has had a full going over. We've already had an early hands-on though, you can get our initial thoughts on that here. But without giving the game away, we suspect you'll be buying this for the camera. If that's the case, you'll love it. But note that this isn't a Windows Phone, it was developed ahead of that and runs on the Symbian Belle operating system. That could be a major issue for anyone looking looking at this as more of an all-rounder.
You'll also find a 4-inch high-resolution, a 1.3GHz single-core processor with 512MB of RAM and 16GB of storage on-board, plus the option to shoot video in 1080p Full HD.
That advanced launch date is still some weeks off, so plenty of time to ponder if the Nokia 808 Pureview is for you. Our full review should be up ahead of that time too, which should help you decide one way or another.
