Nokia 808 PureView will start rolling out in May

03 May 2012

But UK launch is likely to be in June

It's been a talking point since it debuted in February, but official launch details for the Nokia 808 PureView have been thin on the ground. Nokia has now come clean about those all-important shelf dates, although the UK one is still a little vague.

Nokia has just confirmed that the 808 PureView will hit 'selected markets' in May. That's obviously now, so some people can expect to see (and be able to buy) the smartphone and its amazing camera in the very near future. Unfortunately, Nokia only mentions Russia and India as selected nations. So where does that leave the UK?

Well, none of the UK networks have so far come forward with any details of a launch. But in a separate statement, Nokia told the CNET site that the phone would hit the UK in some capacity in the second quarter of 2012. Or if you like, before the end of June. So not long to wait if you want one.

As for the phone itself, well the fact that this is a Symbian smartphone might well put a number of people off. But on the plus side, that large, high-res 41-megapixel sensor with Carl Zeiss optics and pixel oversampling technology will almost certainly appeal to photography lovers. The 808 PureView also offers full HD 1080p video recording and the world's first deployment of Nokia Rich Recording, which enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality.
