New 4G Network from EE Launches on 30 October 2012

20 October 2012

The new network from Orange and T-Mobile, Everything Everywhere, or EE, are launching the UK's first 4G mobile phone network on 30 October 2012.

EE will be offering the UK's biggest 3G network together with the new, much anticipated UK's first 4G network. The 4G network will be rolled out across the UK starting on 30 October 2012. Covering a third of the UK population, EE will be rolling out the new 4G network, dubbed 4GEE in 16 major cities: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham, Newcastle, Sheffield and Southamptom.

4GEE will be powered by a new technology called 4G LTE that will increase mobile network speeds five times faster than 3G. Downloading and streaming on your mobile device will be much quicker.

You will need a 4G LTE compatible mobile device, currently the iPhone 5, HTC One XL, Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE, Samsung Galaxy SIII LTE, Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820. More mobile devices will be available soon.

If you are already with Orange or T-Mobile and you have a 4G LTE ready phone you can start using super fast 4GEE from EE once the network is launchged on 30 October 2012. Check that the 4G network is available in your area and if it is, you will need to sign up to a new EE plan and contract. Even if you are still under an Orange or T-Mobile contract, you can switch. Visit your network, either Orange or T-Mobile and sign up to the new plan. Once the 4G is launched, you will automatically receive 4G.

If you are not with Orange or T-Mobile at present, you will need to switch to either Orange or T-Mobile. Get your PAC code and switch before the launch and you will automatically get 4G from the launch date.

You can also sign up to 4GEE from EE through The Carphone Warehouse.

Mr Swantee, chief executive of EE, summed up the advantages EE will bring to people without fixed broadband. "You can use 4G as an alternative to fixed broadband in areas where there are not many fibre cables." He continued, "There are more than 2 million people who currently can’t get adequate fixed line broadband. Mobile broadband could make a huge difference for them."

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, claimed the EE 4G network to be, "the greatest 4G network in the world." He went on to say, "I barely understand it, but information will spout unstoppably from these gizmos. It will bring huge advantages to anyone who is living or working in London."

Exciting new times ahead!
