APP WATCH: Twitter for Android and iOS updated
27 April 2012
Better search and more notifications with latest app update
There are plenty of alternatives, so the official Twitter app always has to be on top of its game. With that in mind, the app for both Android and iOS has just been updated once more.
Not just the usual 'security fixes', this one offers new functionality. Or at least, new ways to do things. First up, the Discover tab has been updated so you can see 'Activity'. That includes which Tweets have been favorited or retweeted by the people you follow and which accounts those people follow or add to lists. You'll find it below the redesigned stories in Discover, which in turn allows you to tap any story to see Tweets about a particular trend or news article. You can then read the story or reply, retweet or favorite related Tweets.
Search is now made 'simpler', with suggestions for different spellings and related terms for your queries. Finding people is also easier, with autocomplete when you start typing a name. iPhone users also get access to most recent queries and go directly to someone’s profile when searching for a username.
Finally, notifications have had a mini overhaul. Essentially, that means push notifications for Interactions, so you can know immediately when your Tweets have been retweeted or favorited, or when somebody new follows your account. If that sounds a bit much, you can manage settings to keep the 'pings' to a minimum.
Free of course and available now in the App Store or Google Play.
