APP WATCH: Spotify for iPad spotted in the wild
17 April 2012
Official app could be close to launch
It could a spoof or an unofficial app, but the signs point to this being the official Spotify app for the iPad.
Yes, that's right, after much waiting, it now looks like Apple's tablet will have its very own Spotify. About time too, as the iPhone has had an app for as long as any of us can remember. So this new app is long overdue - if it's the real deal.
A shot of the app was posted on Instagram by a technology consultant in Sweden and subsequently removed, but not before the image was captured by various eagle-eyed music lovers. There aren't many words of explanation, except the phrase 'It's getting closer!' That could indicate an imminent launch. At least, that's what we're hoping.
The photo does tell us a few things though, aside from indicating that the poster has a love of old heavy metal. It shows the same overlapping pane interface found in iPad apps like Twitter and Facebook, along with icons for Search, What's New, Inbox, Playlists, and Friends. But above all, it's bigger and just looks that little bit more sophisticated than the iPhone app. That's what you get with more space to play with.
Anyway, that release date. So far, there's nothing available officially. An iPad app is the most-requested 'idea' on the Spotify community site and a Spotify iPad app listed as 'planned' by the company. Fingers crossed, iPad owners, it might well be here before the month is out.
