APP WATCH: Netflix launches for Windows Phone
12 April 2012
But Mango needed for movies and TV on the go
It's fair to say that big-name apps are more plentiful on the iOS and Android platforms than on Windows Phone. But with the success of the Lumia range, that could be steadily changing. More apps like Netflix will certainly be appreciated by WP7 users.
That app has just launched in the UK, following on from an earlier launch of a US-only app. This isn't a straight port, with the new 2.0 app offering more languages and a better 'browsing and viewing experience', thanks to performance improvements and a spot of optimisation. There's also support for subtitles, closed caption and alternate audio in this new version.
But all that is a sideline to the main act – the ability to watch TV and movies on your Windows Phone. The app is free, but you'll need a subscription to watch anything, which costs £5.99 per month. Get that and thousands of shows and movies are available to you. On top of phone viewing, you can also watch (and resume viewing) on other devices too, everything from PCs to Blu-ray players, but you might want to check if your other device is compatible if that's a deal-breaker.
Talking of compatibility, you'll also need the Mango variation of Windows to use the app, but we're guessing most of you have upgraded to that already.
