10 million Samsung Galaxy S III pre-orders

03 April 2012

Leading industry watcher claims orders in for huge quantities

It hasn't even had the official launch yet, but the Samsung Galaxy S III is already looking like one of the big hits of 2012. At least if rumoured pre-order figures are correct.

Industry watcher/insider and blogger Eldar Murtazin has taken to Twitter to state '10 mln preorders for sgs3', which equates to 10 million pre-orders for the upcoming Samsung flagship phone. Someone, somewhere has obviously seen the handset in action and been impressed, if those numbers are the real deal. Presumably the mobile network chiefs. Althouigh the orders might just have been based on the success of the original Galaxy S II.

The rest of us will have to wait for the launch to see if the reality lives up to the hype. That's likely to be until May, although Samsung's man in China has hinted that the phone could get a launch in April. Yes, this month, although it's unlikely to be seen on the high street until the summer is well and truly underway.

As for the phone itself, that's now said to have a screen to rival Apple's Retina display, specifically a a 4.6-inch AMOLED HD+ screen, with a pixel density of 319 ppi, just under the 330 ppi Retina display of the iPhone 4S. There's also talk of an Exynos quad-core chip, an improved camera, NFC and 4G (which may or may not be here in some form this year). All will be revealed soon. We'll keep you updated when we hear more.
